The streets of Durban will come alive on Sunday, 19 July 2015 when thousands of women join forces and “Run Their City” at the action-packed Totalsports Women’s Race in support of PinkDrive, a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) that is committed to improving breast cancer awareness, education, and providing and offering services to women across South Africa.
“PinkDrive cannot think of a better way to honour the women of our country,” says Noelene Kotschan, PinkDrive Founder and CEO. “This event creates a platform for PinkDrive to create awareness and educate the participants regarding breast cancer and the importance of “early detection”. Our medical staff will be on hand to do clinical breast examinations; a PinkDrive representative will do a mass educational talk, while Janice Benecke, a breast Cancer Survivor, will share her story”.
According to Janice Benecke, PinkDrive gave her back her life. “In 1994 I was diagnosed with germ cell cancer. Miraculously, I recovered and received a clean bill of health. 14 years later, I found a lump in my breast which turned out to be breast cancer. After another operation and more chemotherapy, I recovered a second time. Unfortunately, during this period, my husband was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma; bone marrow cancer. He passed away after seven months”.
“PinkDrive have given me back my life,” continues Benecke. “I now feel wanted and that my life and trials have been worthwhile. I am really looking forward to the Totalsports Women’s Race. I love to help and advise the next person so that they don’t have to go through what I have been through. I absolutely love the race. The bracelet that we received on the finish line last year was the best gift ever”.
Look out for the pink “Shop4Cancer” at the Totalsports Women’s Race in Durban. Participants are encouraged to “pimp” themselves Pink”. For more information on PinkDrive visit www.pinkdrive.co.za
